Catherine T. Mastro, 95, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away March 2, 2017 with her daughter at her bedside. She was born at home September 18, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas to Albert and Gertrude Budy the first of 4 girls. She finished an 8th grade education and then left school to work at home on the farm. She joined the Women's Air Corp branch of the Army and was in the first WAC military training group at Fort Des Moines, Iowa in 1944. She met her future husband while stationed in Williams, Arizona when the WAC bowling league was going up against the Air Force Men's League. She left the WAC when her enlistment was up to marry Ted Mastro on December 30, 1946, moving with him whenever he was transferred. They had three children, Dale, Kenneth and Barbara. When Ted retired from the Air Force, the decision was made to return to Catherine's hometown of Kansas City, Kansas. She worked outside the home for a short time after her children left home, but always did charity work crocheting winter hats for shelter organizations, sewing dresses for girls in Children's homes, working at local Food Kitchens and working outside in her flower garden. Ted and Catherine were also able to travel this time getting to enjoy the sights instead of it being for a move. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted, and sister Marie Burnett. She is survived by 2 Sisters Dorothy Burks (Overland Park, KS) and Lillian Knoff (Basehor, KS), her 2 sons Dale Mastro (Teresa) Olathe, KS, Kenneth Mastro (Cherry) Tonganoxie, KS and daughter Barbara Shannon (Randy) Kansas City, KS, grandchildren and great-children.
