Frances Vivienne Carpenter, age 92, passed away at home on Saturday, September 30, 2017
Mrs. Carpenter was born to Arthur and Vivienne. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister Mary Louise.
Frances grew up in Lawrence and received her college education at the University of Kansas, where she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and worked as a commercial illustrator for Herzfeld’s Department Store.
After college she married Paul R. Carpenter, MD. They shared 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2011. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her six children-- Mary Katherine “Kate,” Joseph Lawrence, Craig Robert (Catherine), David Scott, Jane Lois McKinley (Craig), and Michael Paul (Michele Di Brito); eight grandchildren—Kara (Chad), Bridget (David), Brett, Shawn (Amanda), Alison (Ben), Erin (Cody), Tyler, Angela, John, and Isabella; and fifteen great-grandchildren—Sierra, Rhianna, Averi, Benjamin, Owen, Lucy, Isaac, Ethan, Liam, Della, Fiona, Eleanor, Rowan, Abigail and Declan.
Throughout her more than 92 years, Frances always nurtured her creative spirit. She was highly skilled in painting, pen and ink drawing, and sculpture. In her senior years, she became an award-winning art doll maker. When she was 80 years old she declared “I don’t think I can live long enough to get it all out of my head.”
Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Junior League, Monday Club, and the Leavenworth Doll Club.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, October 4, between 5 - 7 p.m. at the Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home, 6300 Parallel Pkwy., Kansas City, KS. 66102
There will be a private burial service.
