Patricia "Pat" L. SedlockMarch 16, 2017
Patricia “Pat” Louise Sedlock 80 passed away on March 16. Pat resided at the Forum Apartments of Overland Park with her husband and best friend, Phil where they were recently crowned King and Queen for the year.
It is so hard to put into words, such a big life.
From her jump off of a box car, as a young woman on a dare, Pat was always on the move. Pat started her working career as a carhop at Allen’s Drive-In where she met the love of her life, Phil.
With a love for business and community, Pat organized, chaired, and participated tirelessly in over seventy community and charitable committees and causes. Her efforts were recognized by many, earning The National Catholic St. Ann’s Award, The Luther Halsey Gulick Award, The Armourdale Giver’s Award and Women Who Mean Business Award. Along the way, she was thrilled to meet Jonas Salk and George W. Bush.
While continuing her volunteer work, Pat worked alongside Phil, running Sedlock Tow Service and founded one of Kansas City’s first woman owned commercial real estate firms, Pat Sedlock Commercial Real Estate.
In 1979 she ran for Mayor of Kansas City, Kansas on the platform of “citizen’s right to vote for a change of government.” While she lost her bid for Mayor, she loved being an advocate for transparency in government, as well as being an early advocate of the Unified Government of WYCO/KCK.
An avid reader, boater and adventurer, one of the highlights of her life was a summer road trip with Phil, grandchildren Deanna and Ryan to see the Alaska-Canadian Highway that her father helped build.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Chuck, her sister Juanita and Pat and Phil’s babies, Denise, Danny, Julia, Scott and Michael.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 61 years, Phil Sedlock; children, Cherise Marie Sedlock, Tim Sedlock (Marissa), Patti Green (Doug), Charlie Sedlock (Leda); sisters Penny Lindstrom (Craig) and Joan Balm; many nieces and nephews, a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren, Arlo (Blair), Lance (Bethany), Ryan, Kaleb, Julia (Mitch), Timmy, Deanna (Darren), Philip (Corey), Kira (Spencer), Levi, Chas, Anelise, Shannon, Chad and honorary grandchildren, Rachel (Dillon).
