Carolyn M/ Barnett

1947 ~ 2019 (age 72)

Carolyn M Barnett, 72, of Kansas City, Kansas, a retired computer programmer, passed away the morning of Tuesday May 7, 2019.

Born in 1947, she was the only daughter of Everett and Rose Freeman, and sister to Everett, John and Mike.  Carolyn married early and had two children, Mike and Michelle.  She got started in computers in the late 70’s when they were a completely new technology.  She loved her career, colleagues and traveling to train others in the field.  Some of her closest friends were long time coworkers.

Carolyn adored animals, supported local rescues and adopted several homeless dogs.  She was a dog person, however, when she passed…she had been adopted by a stray cat.  Also, she enjoyed sitting on her deck and watching the hummingbirds every summer.

Carolyn was a huge music fan and attended some of Kansas City’s biggest rock-n-roll concerts and country music festivals.  Her personal favorites, Styx, Bob Seger, Little River Band, Alan Jackson and George Strait.  She leaves behind some amazing warped vinyl.

The Chiefs…the love of her life was the Kansas City Chiefs.  We are deeply saddened that mom was only able to watch Mahomes play for one season.  She now has a seat in the ultimate sky box.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Mike and John.  She is survived by her oldest brother, Everett and wife Bobbie, her children Mike and Michelle, and her long time companion, Daryl Palmer.  She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews…and a cat.

Carolyn requested a no fuss exit.  So, we will be celebrating her life at a date to be determined.  All family and friends will be notified for a short memorial and small gathering to share memories together.  Bring cat food.

Mom requested that in lieu of flowers, please make suitable donations to: Chain of Hope-KCMO, Unleashed Pet Rescue, The Rescue Project or Always and Forever Midwest Animal Sanctuary.
