Mr. John A Muder, Jr., the ”Businessman”, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully September 17, 2019 at the family home at the age of 92.
John was born June 29, 1927 in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Washington Rural High School and entered World War II. He served with the 7th Infantry Division.
After returning home, John was elected as Trustee of the Quindaro Township board. He was also elected as the president of the Young Democrats of Wyandotte County. He was selected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
John also was appointed to the United States Small Business Administration Board by President Johnson.
Additional appointments included: the Wyandotte County Port Authority Board, the Public Levee Budget Board, the Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority Board, and Secretary of the Board of Public Utilities.
John started Bell Floor Covering Company May 5, 1959 and was joined by his brother Don a couple of years later.
John was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Eagles, Elks, Moose, MOKAN Legion #4. He also served as the Commander of American Legion Post 199 for two terms.
John is preceded in death by his parents John A Muder, Sr. and Margie A (Moss) Muder, wife Grace L. (Rice) Muder, and son Charles W. Thompson, Jr.
John is survived by his brother Donald E. Muder and wife Elizabeth of Kansas City, Kansas, John’s children Ellen Matthew of Denver, Colorado; Marilyn Thompson of Osawatomie, Kansas, Evelyn Thompson of Mission, Kansas; Michael Thompson and his wife Suzanne of Montrose, Colorado; John A. Muder, III and his wife Pamela of Kansas City, Kansas; Abigail (Muder) McCall and her husband Michael of Kansas City, Kansas; Nicholas Muder and his wife Angela of Kansas City, Kansas; Marjorie Muder-Richardson of Kansas City, Kansas; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, and his loyal companion “Jackson”.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, September 24th, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Saint Patrick Church in Kansas City, Kansas. The Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, September 25th, 2019 beginning 10:30 a.m. at Saint Patrick Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
