Karen Lee (Semon) Hernandez, (70) died peacefully in the arms of her loving husband on August 13th, 2017 at their home in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Karen grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1964 and went on to spend her life with her high school sweetheart. Karen and Richard were married for 54 years. Together they raised their children, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Karen was retired; she worked for KCKPD Detective Bureau, Sunflower Hills Golf Course, Fairbanks Morse, Lithographic’s, and Green Lawn. Karen was of catholic faith and attended church at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Karen enjoyed watching sports especially K-State Football, Chiefs and Royals. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards and golf. She loved fresh cut flowers and enjoyed gardening. Karen was always welcoming and never met a stranger who didn’t instantly become a friend. She often took others under her wing to nurture and call them her own. She was very quick witted and was sure to give you a peace of her mind. What she loved most was having her family together and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an amazing woman in so many ways. She had the voice of an angel when she led the church choir and was our personal meteorologist. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Teresa Semon and Herbert Semon. Karen is survived by her husband Richard L. Hernandez Sr., son Richard L. Hernandez Jr. (Margarita), daughters Cassie Sullivan (Howard), Danielle Hernandez (Juan), grandchildren John, Calise, Clint, Stephen, Sierra, Daniel, Ashley and Mateo. Brother’s Roy (Diana, deceased), Jim (Anne), John (Denise) and numerous nieces and nephews.
