Irene (Dressler) Brennan 1915 – 2018
When the going gets tough the tough get going sums up Irene’s life, though you’d never know it from her diminutive frame, graceful style and sweet nature. Born in 1915 she was proud to claim Armourdale as her birthplace and Wyandotte County as home. She met Mickey at Bishop Ward High School, they later married and became charter members of Christ the King Parish. Exemplifying generosity, she took in relatives when the flood ravaged their homes and epitomizing fortitude, she went to work in Mickey’s place following his horrific car accident in 1955. Soon after, their eldest daughter was diagnosed and later died of leukemia. Though heartbroken, Irene mourned privately and persevered. Breaking her neck in 2008 was just another misfortune taken in stride.
She outlived six siblings, husband “Mickey”, and daughter Pat, son-in-law Gary Kloster, many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. She is survived by daughters Janet Kloster and Debbie Mishler and sons Mike (Mary) and Dennis, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Effortlessly, Irene humbly set an example of quiet strength and grit for the brood of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that were her world. She enjoyed bargain hunting, crafting and quarter slots. We are thankful to have had her with us these 103 years. She now joins dear Pat from whom she has been separated far too long. Irene, sweet soul, always the caregiver with an unwavering love of and dedication to family. Her prayers finally answered, she rests peacefully now as we hand her over to God’s care. But we will miss her so.
Unending thanks and blessings to her caregivers Denise, Ericka, Charlotte, Rudene, Dr. Birch, Vitas Hospice and the Sisters Servants of Mary. In lieu of flowers, family suggest donations in her name directed to the Sisters Servants of Mary, Kansas City, Kansas or the Leukemia Society.
The family shall receive friends, Monday, 5:30-7:30 PM., December 3, 2018 at the Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home, 6300 Parallel Pkwy., Kansas City, KS. 66102 with the Rosary, 7:10 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 53rd and Leavenworth Rd., Kansas City, KS. 66104. Burial will be Mr. Calvary Cemetery, 38th & State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
