Obituary

Dr. Donald Raymond Ash, age 73, of Kansas City, KS, died Sunday, January 16, 2022, peacefully at home with family. Don was born in September 1948, in Fort Sheridan Illinois to Lee Anthony and Margaret Mary Ash. He was raised in White City, Kansas and graduated from White City High School in 1966. Doc married Ruby Jean Phillips on July 24, 1968.  Doc served two tours in the US Navy as a Seabee in The Vietnam Conflict.  Doc then attended Kansas State University for his Bachelor of Science, and University of Health Sciences for his doctorate in osteopathic medicine. Doc attended residency training at Creighton University in Family Medicine. Doc then served in the US Army from 1987 through 1993. After the US Army, Doc worked in a variety of clinics and emergency rooms in Missouri, settling at Cameron Regional Medical Center.  He retired from a career in Medicine in 2010.  Dr. Ash was known by his colleagues, residents, nurses, and patients as a compassionate and caring physician.

 

Outside of work, Doc lived an eventful life by his priorities.  Doc was a devout Catholic, he attended Sacred Heart Seminary for two years in Donaldson, Indiana.  Doc was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas.  Doc was a hunter, camper, and all-around outdoorsman with a never-ending love for horses, dogs, and his family.  Doc was also a member of the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club in Leavenworth, Kansas.  Doc enjoyed spending many hours with his fellow veterans sharing the pains of war.

 

Survivors include his wife Ruby Jean Ash, his 3 children, Theresa L. Ash Wilkes, Daniel E. Ash, David M. Ash, son in law Everett A. Wilkes, daughter in law Pamela E. Reid Ash and daughter in law to be Henna Pearl Sexton.  His 6 grandchildren Samantha R. Wilkes Abarak, Sean A. Wilkes, Jacob R. Ash, Emily C. Kruse, William D. Ash, and Aidan P. Kruse. His 3 great grandchildren Mohammad Abarak, Emerson Wilkes, and Myla Riley Ash.  His 7 brothers and sisters, Audrey Ash, Steve Ash, Mary Ash, Gilbert Ash, Thomas Ash, Lee Anthony (Tony) Ash, James Michael Ash, and multiple nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 5:00pm to 6:30pm followed by the holy rosary from 6:30pm to 7:00pm on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home (masks are mandatory).  Funeral Services will be at 10:00am on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (masks are mandatory).  Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery following mass.  A celebration of life will be at Doc’s son Dan’s house following the burial.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
