Emma Jean Herron

1937 ~ 2021 (age 84)

Obituary

Emma Jean Herron, age 84, passed away December 7th, 2021 at her home in Kansas City, KS surrounded by her loving family. Her parents were Karl and Alma Hayes from Canton, Ohio. Emma grew up in Canton and graduated from Timken Vocational High School. After graduation, she enlisted in the Air Force where she worked as an accountant with secret service clearances. While stationed in Texas, she met and married her husband. After their Military services, they moved to Kansas City and lived there for the remainder of her life. She spent her entire life in banking and worked at the Old Shawnee State Bank until it was closed, eventually retiring from Enterprise Bank. She had a great love for reading. She would read several books a week and was part of a large book club. Everyone knew Emma for her love of Fenton glass and large elephant collection. The family would often visit and try to count the elephants in the room. Her entire family grew to join in on the love of her hobbies as well.  In recent months, Emma had become a cancer survivor. She was in the process of healing and overcoming the long process when the Lord called her home. 

Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Alma Hayes(Ohio), and brother "Jim" Hayes. 

She is survived by her former husband Richard Herron of Shawnee, KS. brothers David and Kirk Hayes (Ohio), three sons; Mike (Robbie) Herron, Brian (Diane) Herron, and Jeff (Julie) Herron and one daughter, Teresa Shaw (Willie L.Shaw). 

Emma has 10 grandchildren: Meredith Herron, Tiffany Duran, Todd Herron, Kyle Herron, Crystal Groves, Heather Murphy, Blythe Herron, Hayli Herron, Dana Herron, and Jessie Herron; and 17 great-grandchildren. All with whom she loved and very much enjoyed spending time with.    

Visitation will be at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, December 16th, 2021 at Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home 6300 Parallel Parkway Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral Services will follow at 10:30 A.M. 

Burial will be at 12:30 P.M. Thursday, December 16th, 2021, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery 150 Muncie Rd., Leavenworth, KS 66048
