Jay C. Whited

1948 ~ 2022 (age 73)

Obituary

Jay Cole Whited, 73, of Kansas City, KS, beheld the face of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 31, 2022

Jay was born in Atlantic, Iowa, November 1948 to Robert Russell and Doris Marie (Hildebrand).

Jay is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary, his two children Christopher and Carmen, his brother Joel, and his half-brother Todd.   He is also survived by his wife’s family, whom he regarded as his own: John Duncan Sr., Sharon Post (Larry), John Duncan Jr. (Mary), Susanne Gibbons (Danny), Carol Grimm, and many nieces and nephews.

Jay graduated from Washington High School, Kansas City, KS in 1967. He attended Donnelly College and Kansas City Business College, graduating with a business degree in accounting in 1970. Jay worked for Charles F. Curry Mortgage Company in accounting and as a mail clerk for 30 years. He also worked as a mail clerk at Mid-America Health and Coventry Healthcare.  Before his sudden passing, Jay spent the last 18 years working with Dickinson Financial Corporation and Academy Bank.

In his leisure time, Jay enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and old TV westerns such as Gunsmoke. His viewing interests also included presidential history and Star Wars.  He also liked attending the occasional Royals baseball or Chiefs football game.

Jay was a founding member of The Master’s Community Church (The MCC) in Kansas City, Kansas.  He served as treasurer for The MCC and Berean Baptist Church for over 30 years.

He was among the rare breed of human who enjoyed doing tax returns or helping with financial matters.

After his conversion in 1971, Jay loved to sing hymns and spiritual songs. His tenor voice was heard proclaiming the gospel in several church choirs, a prison fellowship group, and a nursing home quartet. In recent years Jay supported Project Patricia of The MCC in their mission to provide feminine hygiene products to school age girls and women in Africa. His skills with packing tape will be greatly missed.

Jay’s church was part of his family. Longtime members were his brothers and sisters. He frequently considered the younger members he knew best as his sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters.   He continued in prayer for his spiritual sons and daughters as they branched out across Kansas City, the United States and the world.
