Mary Genevieve Althoff
Mary Genevieve Althoff (Genevieve) age 103 quietly passed away in her sleep from natural causes November 13, 2021. She was born on December 5, 1917 in Atchison, Kansas and attended Mount St. Scholastica high school. On January 6, 1938 she married her husband Charles Norman Althoff. For most of her life she was a stay-at-home mom but she did have a cake decorating business for several years which she ran with her sister-in-law.
She is survived by her two daughters, Norma Ann Tanner (Thomas) and Shirley Joyce Nobles, 7 grandchildren, Tammy Huddleston (Brad), Teresa Austin (Gary), Cathy Hotujac (Paul (Butch)), Julie Eikenbary (Brian), Cheryl Fortenberry (Troy), Krista Sands (Ritchie) and Travis Hofstra (Robin). 14 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Ida Miller, her 5 brothers and their wives, Francis (Elizabeth and Kathrine), Henry, Robert (Mickey), Bernard (Virginia) and Theodore William (Julia (Judy)), her husband Charles Norman Althoff to whom she was married over 53 years. Four grandchildren Linda Tanner, Bret Tanner, Michael Tanner and Bradley Hofstra and one great grandchild Clayton James (CJ) McCombs.
She lived on her own until the age of 99 when she began residing at the Piper Assisted Living Facility. She was loved by her entire family and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Saturday November 20, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church, 1086 N. 94th Street Kansas City, KS and a burial mass will be held at the church at 11:00 am. Interment Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor, Kansas.
