Richard Gene Keltner went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2021. Richard was born in 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas until he moved to a retirement home in Kansas City, Missouri in 2015. He later moved to the Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri and then to Warrensburg, Missouri. Visitation will be held on March 23rd at Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home at 6300 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas from 10:00-11:00 AM, with a Service immediately following at 11:00 AM.
Richard was married in 1948 to B. Louise (Wright)Keltner who preceded him in death in 1987. They were married for 39 years and had 4 children. Richard is preceded in death by his parents William and Gwendolyn, his brother Loren, his son David and his second wife Mary of which he was married to for 30 years.
Survivors include his three children, Susan Bennett (Steve) of Lee Summit, MO, Scott Keltner (Cindy) of Shawnee, KS and Amy Keltner of Lee Summit, MO. As well as 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 4 great -great grandchildren.
Richard graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1946 and promptly entered the Navy. He served two years in the Navy on the USS Fargo in the Mediterranean Sea. He was enormously proud of his service to his country. He and his wife attended numerous naval reunions. After his service in the Navy, Richard began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman until his retirement in November 1987. He was a 50-year member of Sunset Hills Christian Church. Richard enjoyed KU Jayhawk Basketball, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. He and his family travelled all over the United States. He was personally proud that he had travelled to all 50 states. In addition, he had traveled to Europe later in life with his second wife.
