Master Sargent Steven Edward Aufenkamp, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the age of 67.

Steve was born to parents Dale and Betty Aufenkamp in 1952 in Nebraska. He grew up as the youngest of four and attended Spokane High School. In 1970, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves. In July of 1993, he earned the position of Master Sargent. Steve enjoyed bowling on many leagues in Kansas City, Kansas.

Steve married Deborah Dickess on January 1, 1984, and the couple had four children combined. After Steve’s retirement from service in June of 1995, he continued to work for the Federal Government as a Financial Analyst until 2016.

Steve is survived by his wife, Deborah Aufenkamp; his step-son, James Olive; step-daughter, Angela Shick; son, Jeffery Aufenkamp; daughter, Teresa Helvie; granddaughters, Cassandra Perry and Rhianna Shick; grandsons, Matthew Seymour, Ryan Shick, Jeremy Aufenkamp,  Bryce and Logan Gray, Michael and James Helvie; great-grandson Travis Perry; great-granddaughters Amelia Perry, Athena and Ainsley Seymour, Leah and Maycee Aufenkamp; his sisters, Marcia Aufenkamp and Cathy Illif and brother, Robert Aufenkamp. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A memorial service will be at Mary Buttler Meyers Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 10:30 am. Military Honors Services will follow at 12:30 pm at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Please join the family at KC Bowl following the Military Honor Service for a Celebration of Life.
