William G. Turpin, 96, passed away September 16, 2020 at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, Gardner, Kansas. He was born in Atchison, Kansas on June 7, 1924.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943-1945 in Company C Engineer Combat Battalion. His battalion was the first wave that landed on Osage Beach in Normandy on D-Day. He was proud of his service to his country.
He was employed from 1951-1987 at General Motors Fairfax Division, Kansas City, Kansas. as an inspector on the line and retired after 36 years.
He was an avid fisherman and boater and a league bowler. He was a recent member of the Aged to Perfection League at Mission Bowl in Olathe.
He was a past Commander of the VFW Post #5851 in Kansas City, Kansas in the late 1970's.
Bill loved life and his family and always enjoyed a good fried chicken meal and watching the Royals and Chiefs games.
He was predeceased by his parents Balious and Irene Turpin, his wife of 76 years Juanita his infant son Billy Jo Turpin, three sisters Mary Jo Turpin, Betty Fugina and Darlene Cowan and two brothers, Jerry Turpin and Ronald Turpin.
He is survived by his daughter Donna Sue Harris (Garry) of Gardner his son, Gary A Turpin of Olathe, two Granddaughters Cassidy Lynn Brannon (Tim) and Penny Dawn Maxwell (Delbert) of Overland Park, Ks and four great grandchildren Kinsley Jo Brannon and Hudson Timothy Brannon and Cheyenne Dawn Maxwell and Dakota Lee Maxwell, two brothers, Donald Turpin (Rosie) and Dennis Turpin of Atchison, Kansas and many nieces and nephews and other family members.
Private family viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 11:00am at Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Chapel, 6300 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. Graveside service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 12:30.
